Renault are broadening the range by introducing a third model and follows Ford’s philosophy: the Mondeo, too, is available in fastback, sedan and estate guise.

While so far Renault’s mid-class range has consisted of a fastback Laguna and an estate as well as the brand-new coupé, the currently built 3rd generation – officially revealed in June 2007 – will apparently be completed by an all-new variant: a three-box sedan. We spied the car undergoing break-tests in Switzerland this weekend.

Apart from the three-box layout of the car, another revealing detail is the shape and the placement of the taillights, both of which will be completely different to those of the fastback.

Technically the new Laguna sedan will be identical to its fastback and estate brothers, but the rear overhang – and hence the overall length – will grow significantly.
