VAT).<br /><br /><br /><br /><b>New gasoline engine with 103 kW/140 hp sets standards in fuel economy</b><br /><br /><br /><br />The newly developed 1.4 turbo ecoFLEX gasoline engine is the product of uncompromising "downsizing". In combination with six-speed manual transmission, Start/Stop technology, power steering, aerodynamic underbody paneling and size 225/50 R 17 low-rolling-resistance tires, it is the most economical gasoline engine in the entire mid-size class segment.<br /><br /><br /><br />All together, these measures reduce the 1.4 turbo fuel consumption - compared with the previous 1.8-liter version, also with 103 kW/140 hp - by two liters in the sedan to 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers. CO2 emissions are reduced by 45 grams to 134 grams per kilometer - in both cases a reduction of more than 25 percent. At the same time, the torque delivered by the most economical gasoline engine in its class was increased by almost 15 percent to 200 Nm.<br /><br /><br /><br />With this performance potential the Insignia 1.4 turbo ecoFLEX can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 10.9 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 205 km/h. Opel's top model is available with this propulsion variant as a sedan or as a Sports Tourer and - with 5.9 liters per 100 km and 139 g/km CO2 - it also sets standards in the station wagon segment.<br /><br /><br /><br />Refinements to the new powertrain also include the optimization of the transmission ratio, resulting in reduced consumption and improved agility. The electric power steering REPS (Rack Assist Electric Power Steering) featured for the first time in the Insignia provides additional comfort. Its steering characteristics can now be even more flexibly adapted to every driving situation. A significant advantage of the REPS system is the potential for fuel saving and thus a reduction in CO2 emissions. Thanks to extensive measures like the Start/Stop system and low-rolling-resistance tires, Opel engineers were able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to 8.4 l/100 km and 197 g/km respectively (previously: 8.9 l/100 km, 209 g/km CO2). With this increase in power and torque and the even more dynamic characteristics - with simultaneous reduction in fuel consumption - the Insignia 2.0 turbo 4x4 convinces with a top performance in the premium mid-size class segment.<br /><br /><br /><br /><b>Opel Start/Stop system with many engine variants</b><br /><br /><br /><br />Not just the two units already mentioned benefit from the Opel Start/Stop system. The 162 kW/220 hp 2.0 turbo with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission will soon be available with the intelligent fuel-saving technology - including aerodynamic underbody paneling and rolling-resistance-optimized tires.<br /><br /><br /><br />This reduces fuel consumption by 0.5 to 7.6 liters per 100 kilometers. The Start/Stop system is in its element in city traffic, where up to one liter per 100 kilometers can be saved. The CO2 emissions in the combined cycle were reduced accordingly to 179 instead of the former 189 grams per kilometer.<br /><br /><br /><br /><b>New infotainment systems</b><br /><br /><br /><br />The new infotainment systems Navi 600 and Navi 900 Europa are far superior to the CD or DVD-based predecessor versions in terms of the scope of features offered. All of the map material is stored on SD cards, and the maps can be adapted to suit individual customer needs. In addition to the default points of interest (POIs), further POIs can be downloaded and stored on the device. The driver can select single points and store these in the address book as individual POIs. Another practical feature: as well as the fastest and shortest routes, the navigation system also allows the selection of the most economical, i.e. lowest fuel consumption routes.<br /><br /><br /><br />The Navi 900 Europa system also offers a voice recognition and log book function - the latter with the option of separating private and business trips. As of the equipment variant "Edition", an especially high-quality Infinity sound system is also available.<br /><br /><br /><br /><b>Opel front camera with additional functions</b><br /><br /><br /><br />The Opel Insignia also offers further optimizations in the model year 2012 in terms of safety. The new Opel front camera, used for traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning to date, now also has the Following Distance Indication which constantly measures the distance to the car ahead in seconds. It is activated automatically from a speed of 40 km/h and helps the driver to avoid rear-end collisions and possible fines for tailgating. The Forward Collision Alert provides a visual signal on the instrument cluster and an audible alarm to warn the driver of an imminent collision with the car ahead. Additionally, the optionally available front camera in conjunction with AFL+ serves as a High Beam Assist.<br /><br /><br /><br /><b>Premium equipment: Nappa leather "Indian Night"</b><br /><br /><br /><br />The model year 2012 Insignia also offers enhanced comfort and additional elegance. But for the first time on a VXR8, Vauxhall has employed Magnetic Ride Control (MRC), a suspension system which adapts up to 1000 times a seconds to road conditions and driver inputs. Based on technology used in GM's current Corvette ZR1 supercar, MRC works by sending an electric current through damper units filled with 'soft' magnetic particles. These particles harden as the input reaches its maximum value, providing drivers with exceptional levels of ride, handling and stopping power.<br /><br />Complementing the new VXR8's MRC is Launch Control, which is engaged when drivers select the ESC's (Electronic Stability Control) Competition Mode. The system dictates the level of torque delivered to the rear wheels for maximum acceleration, according to surface conditions. All the driver has to do is floor the throttle and let the car do the rest. Extensive testing has proved that LC results in acceleration runs no more than 0.1 second apart.<br /><br />Of course, no VXR8 would be complete without a large-capacity V8, and this latest version doesn't disappoint. The fourth generation 6.2-litre LS3 unit produces 431PS and a massive 550Nm of torque, enough to propel the VXR8 from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a governed top speed of 155mph. As before, drive is delivered to the rear axle via either a six-speed manual or auto transmission, working through a mechanical limited slip differential.<br /><br />Inside, the new VXR8 has undergone a transformation. Full leather trim is now standard, and front occupants are cocooned in special HSV Performance Seats with eight-way adjustability. A new instrument cluster and surround, centre stack and switchgear provide a cleaner and more integrated look, while standard equipment also includes Aux-in/USB inputs, iPod support and Bluetooth with phone book display and touch-screen dialling.<br /><br />But for drivers who want to engage with their VXR8 like never before, Vauxhall has introduced EDI, or Enhanced Driver Interface. EDI connects with the on-board computer to constantly stream real-time vehicle dynamics and performance to the car's main 5-inch monitor. At the touch of the screen, drivers can access a variety of data such as vehicle G-forces, power and torque and lap times – even the degree to which their VXR8 is drifting. The top-of-the-line 1.4 Turbo is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox.<br /><br />The diesel line-up starts with a 55 kW/75 hp, 1.3 CDTI engine fitted with closed loop technology. This control system improves fuel consumption: Opel is the first to adopt it on such a small engine. Importantly, when both the front and rear door are open at the same time, FlexDoors create a safety zone: Both child and parents can get out of the car without a door separating them; children are kept under control.<br /><br />At the same time, the FlexDoors are safe. Opel engineers have developed a fail-safe system that ensures the doors are always latched and locked whenever the vehicle is in motion at speeds above four kilometers per hour. Extra space has been created between the front seats by raising the gearshift and fitting an electric park brake as a standard feature on all versions.<br /><br />Improved storage opportunities extend throughout the cabin, which has been designed to accommodate the items that Opel research shows are most commonly carried inside a car. One example: A 1.5-liter bottle fits in the front door pockets.<br /><br />In the rear, Meriva’s class-leading FlexSpace seating concept offers an adaptable cabin configuration without having to remove any seats. It has been improved for a more intuitive operation with an easy, one-step motion when sliding the rear seat cushions or lowering the seatbacks. This allows the Meriva to easily transform between five and two seats. Alternatively, all rear seatbacks can be fully lowered for optimal cargo-carrying flexibility.<br /><br />New for Meriva is the FlexFix bicycle carrier. Rather than having to step back, or to one side, as one would using a normal front-hinged door, the FlexDoor allows unimpeded forward access/egress to and from the cabin, enhanced further by the Meriva’s exceptionally high roof line.<br /><br /><center><img alt="" border="0" height="317" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/S0LyJnCO00I/AAAAAAACYmM/3Bh-BJkpEj4/s1600/2010-Opel-Meriva-04.jpg" width="480" /></center><br />For parents with children, there are further benefits. Due to the larger door opening and free space around the B-pillar, parents can lift small children forwards in to rear-mounted, second-stage child seats without having to contort themselves around a door. And with both the front and rear doors open (the fronts open at a similar angle to the rear FlexDoors) a ‘parent-friendly’ zone is created with no door barrier between front and rear occupants.<br />Crucially, the FlexDoors can only be opened by occupants while the car is stationary, an automatic lock engaging as soon as the car pulls away.<br />While the concept of two rear-hinged back doors is not new in the motor industry, the Meriva’s FlexDoor system is the first time it has been used on a family car in recent years. But unlike other rear-hinged door applications (Rolls Royce Phantom/Ghost and Mazda RX8), the Meriva benefits from front and rear doors that open independently, and does not require rear passengers to sit behind the door opening.<br /><br /><center><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/S0LyJ2MG7PI/AAAAAAACYmU/WwWMLHhHvWM/s1600/2010-Opel-Meriva-05.jpg" width="480" /></center><br />Class-leading in-cabin flexibility<br />Once inside the new Meriva, buyers benefit from two further groundbreaking innovations. The FlexRail adopts a completely fresh approach to the design of a car’s centre console, and provides owners with a variety of modular storage and comfort solutions that fix on to an ingenious dual-rail base. The new Meriva’s storage bin and cubby count has also increased, meaning that owners now benefit from one of the most practical cabins in class.<br />In addition, the current Meriva’s much-praised FlexSpace system has evolved with even greater practicality. Now more intuitive to use, the new Meriva’s FlexSpace allows easier fold-down of the rear seats, while moving the rear seats to create more boot, leg or shoulder room is simpler than ever.<br />The new Meriva’s seat comfort has also advanced, with the adoption of front seat technology from the Insignia and Astra. Like the Insignia and Astra, a ‘blade’ features down the side of the body, complementing a window line with a distinct ‘wave’ accentuating the FlexDoors, allowing panoramic views for rear passengers.<br />The design theme continues in the Meriva’s cabin, with cues taken from the Insignia and Astra enhancing the perceived quality of the materials.<br /><br /><center><img alt="" border="0" height="321" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/S0LyIrc9jEI/AAAAAAACYls/0FJKAQMf-HA/s1600/2010-Vauxhall-Meriva-11.jpg" width="480" /></center><br />Advanced chassis and more efficient powertrains <br />With a longer wheelbase and wider front and rear tracks, buyers will see a marked improvement in the new Meriva’s ride and handling qualities.<br />They’ll also see a reduction in running costs, since the engine line-up – which features six turbocharged units and power outputs from 75 to 140PS – benefits from an average fuel consumption/CO2 reduction of 15 per cent, or -25g/km across the range.
