Still in its early testing stages, our spies have managed to get the shots of a prototype for the next generation 5 series in Munich, Germany.

The new 5 series will be equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, optional four wheel drive and expect power to come from 6 petrol engines (ranging from 2.5 litre 218hp to 4.4 litre V8 biturbo 408hp) and four diesels (ranging from 2.0 litre 175hp to 3.0 litre 300hp).

Wide angle cameras will be fitted into the side mirrors for the all new model to give the driver an overall view of the car and it will also feature Park Distance Control.

The new 5 series will be launched in spring 2010, with the M5 set to follow a year later.
